We finally get some time in the all new, 100% electric car the Nissan LEAF. The first widely available electric car is capable of driving about 110 miles on a charge. The electric motor produces 107 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. The LEAF can be plugged into any conventional home electric outlet to be recharged. The LEAF handles a lot better than expected and it’s acceleration was pretty impressive too. It actually felt quick off the line due to the availability of all 207 lb-ft of torque the second your foot hits the accelerator. Rumors are that the 0-60 MPH time is about 10 or 11 seconds. We didn’t have time to do an official test unfortunately but it felt a lot quicker than that to us. As far as gas mileage goes. The EPA has rated the LEAF at 99 MPG. Wow!!! Good thing that there are bountiful ways to produce electricity as opposed to only 1 way of producing fossil fuels which takes drilling and millions of years from bacteria and algae deposits. Imagine if the government actually invested sufficient funding in solar, wind, tidal, wave, geothermal energy sources instead of fighting wars and meddling in foreign affairs to ensure oil and other resources. O_O What a shocker that would be!
When ewerybody start using battery cars then i think the goverments will be quick to put all kinds of taxes on electricity, its cheaper today but just wait when they start to become more common.
I drive a Silverado with loud *** pipes. There’s no way I’d trade that in for a car that doesn’t make a sound. This thing can’t even get me to and from my job on one ‘charge’.
Keep lookin for reasons to **** it guys. I hope you all stick with your attitudes when gas is 5,6 or 7 dollars a gallon.Typical American attitude”I’m not gonna change one dam thing I do,no matter how much good it can do”.Be true to your word folks, stick with oil. I will get one,and let it pay for itself.
prii are ugly, this I can work with
I don’t care about going green but this looks like an interesting ride
yo mobile has better potential
@pacsum too much money tho.only the rich can buy those.i’m talkin 30grand most.
if it had a 200 mile range….then mabye but in real driving conditions with the air con on you get mabey 70 miles, if you go snail mode.I’m gonna wait until they perfect the technology plus hyundai has better battery technology.research it.
I know that air conditioning / defrost functions drain alot of power and I couldn’t live without defrost during rainy and wintery days. You have to be able to see when you’re driving. I wonder how they account for those.
@manofsan This is a smart person
I save 300 a month in gas, and average out my gas and car loan payment I pay now. Charge this baby with a portable solar panel, then i will pay 35000 for it.
The arbitrary distance limit,. they could easily remove. They are setting it for an oil replacement industry. SHELL, Chevron, Exxon, Murphy, Texaco, bp, etc. are going to control the electricity stations. Why would they make the outlet different and not provide the end user with the ability to do rapid charge themselves? bullcrap
i want one, but i cannot afford it without tax breaks on it. 35000 is WAY out of the average persons ability. That is almost 600 a month and most people can only afford half that or less in this economy. Additionally, what about getting stuck in traffic? Traffic jams in Dallas can last up to an hour or more, not to mention LA. Sorry i have to post my response in three parts
@DaaYay Well, there’s another side to that. It shows they have less oil than they want to let on.
@eraserheads78 Yah, we need these before they cause another deep sea oil spill.
@pancakewafflebacon Maybe, but I think you might be exaggerating a bit
@datpimpinboy coal has an unusually high amount of radioactive particles in it. when it is burned, all that crap rains down on us. nuclear power, however is contained. the only thing released into the atmosphere is steam
@pancakewafflebacon “Coal has radiation”…. “nuclear is the way to go” somehow I dont think you are making any sense at all….
@niflap It charges 80% of the battery, and that means from flat, which most likely no one is gonna run the battery to flat dead.
@Butchmedic Awesome man!!! You’re really lucky to be able to afford the LEAF, it’s such an awesome car, and you did a great choice on chosing this over the wannabe VOLT. Enjoy it!
