I am curious to know how much nickel is mined for the average hybrid car battery? I’ve heard hybrids toted as the solution, but nickel is a finite resource which must be mined. As I understand it the batteries are extremely heavy composed of mostly nickel.

It’s pretty obvious that the direction that the US is going is with CNG (compressed natural gas) for automobiles… The Pickens Plan is starting to get a lot of momentum… I personally don’t want to wait 10 years to get a CNG car…so I was curious if there are any CNG Conversion Kits readily available yet? I live in the Columbus Ohio area… I know about the Honda Civic that runs on CNG, but I would rather have the flexibility to convert my own car (instead of waiting on the waiting list to get the Honda Civic)..

It amazes me how American auto companies are losing money, laying people off, and yet they are pumping out SUV’s instead of alternative fuel cars that have huge waiting lists to purchase… I am starting to have less and less sympathy for those companies…

I have been checking into converting my Dodge Trk to cng. I live in Alabama, so I’m pretty sure the state doesn’t care (I’m 55 and have never had a safety or emissions test on any car I’ve ever had.) With regards to the EPA, My understanding is “as long as you don’t disable or remove anything then cng conversion is totally fine.. to me this means there is no EPA certification required. The resulting emissions will be lowered to well below any current testing standards. Utah is currently working to ease EPA standards and it seems that EPA is ok with this, as long as result has lower emissions..
Any feed back or first hand Info would be greatly appreciated.
