With U.N. climate talks scheduled for Dec 3-14 in Bali, Indonesia, countries are facing one of the biggest puzzles in history – how to curb the rise in greenhouse gases that are disrupting the climate.
Developing nations say the rich countries, led by the United States, should do more to take the lead since their emissions per capita are far higher.
But China’s overall emissions are surging and the country is set to overtake the United States as the biggest single emitter. Washington says that China should do more. China’s top climate negotiator said on Thursday the country will do more if rich nations share clean energy technologies.
A U.N. report published this week shows each nations’ carbon footprints…every American emits 20.6 tonnes, each person in China just 3.8 tonnes or just below the world average of about 4 tonnes.
So what’s a fair shareout?
