I have an ’02 Mercury Sable Gs, it gets about 22 – 26 mpg. I was wondering if i pull a trailer with an empty weight of 700 pounds with 500 pounds of my stuff in it (at most), how many miles per gallon can i possibly expect.

around 33% less.

it’s not the weight that hurts you, it’s the extra drag the trailer adds.

you’ll get nearly the same decrease in mpg with the trailer empty or loaded.

your speed plays a big part so take it easy.

make sure you balance the load evenly and not put too much weight to the front or the back.
